Voting privileges – Only members in good standing can vote, but new members who join and pay their dues this evening may also vote.

 

Five seats are up for election – The nominating committee submitted the following names

Discussion of coming year

 

A discussion was held of the past board and the past year and its accomplishments and activities, and of plans for the coming year.

 

1.         The Board values creating a safe space for community discussion – as it did for the Historic District expansion. The Board did significant outreach to the community to publicize the meeting and ensure broad participation.

 

  1. We want to engage with other organizations and institutions to address community issues.
  2. There will be 9 board meetings and 9 membership meetings in coming year –

 

4.   Service is our primary mission – not taking positions on issues.

 

5.   A request was made to post the locations and times of board meetings on the website and that all board decisions be posted on the web.  Another request was made that when the membership votes on an issue to ensure that members can attend and participate.

 

  1. Paul said he would post the board meeting calendar when it is set.

 

  1. Jana Price, who is rotating off the board, said that she hopes to continue working with the organization

 

  1. Julie Guerrero-Schor highlighted the work she, Sara Green, and Faith Wheeler have done to address cross border crime issues.

 

  1. We discussed the need to grow our membership.  New board member Pam Ellison said she has experience with membership management.

 

  1. We began getting financial sponsors for the newsletter, which is something the new board wants to continue.

 

11. We discussed the need to get more people involved in doing the work of the organization and recruiting new board members and officers to take over in the future.

  1. Rich Holzsager (email: holzsager@rcn.com) said he wanted to revamp the website (takomadc.org) to include minutes and agendas from prior board and membership meetings along with the newsletters.

 

12. Carolivia Herron – Wants to help tell and preserve the stories of the neighborhood.

  1. ANC meeting – 501 Riggs Road N.E. 7-9 Thursday 10/26/2006

 

            Next board meeting Tuesday 11/14 at 8 PM
